Birding in Corbett National Park and Nainital

Itinerary

Day 1– Arrive at Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport to be met by your tour driver and guide and transferred to your hotel. Depending on the time of your flight you may have chance to visit birding sites around Delhi where you will have the opportunity to see Babbler, Bulbul, Green Bee Eater, Kingfishers, Kites, Rose ringed Parakeets and many other species. An evening visit to the floodlit India Gate can expect to produce sightings of White-rumped Needletails.

Overnight in Delhi, Hotel JP Sidhartha

Day 2 – After breakfast you will be transferred to Fort Unchagaon, Garhmukhteshwar where you will be met by the lodge staff with a refreshing welcome drink and have time to explore the grounds and nearby lake before lunch in the cool and airy first floor dining room. In the afternoon you will be taken on a guided bird-watching walk, returning in time for dinner with perhaps a game of billiards to follow. In the grounds you can expect to see Peacocks, Oriental White eyes and Indian Grey Hornbills.

Overnight Fort Unchagaon, Garmukhteshwar

Day 3 – Today you will be able to see bird and animal spotting on the way, to rendezvous with your SGTI driver and guide for your onward tour to Nainital. This drive takes you through some spectacular mountain scenery as you climb up into the Kumaon Hills with some opportunities for bird-watching on the way. You will arrive at Naini Retreat in time for dinner. During your time here you will have full day bird-watching excursions, taking a packed lunch with you. There will also be time for a stroll up to Tiffin Top from the hotel and to ride the cable car to get a view of the snow-capped Himalaya. Excursions will include Pangot, Cheena Peak and the Sal-Tal areas where highlights will include Himalayan, Brown Fronted, Rufous Belly and Scaly Bellied Woodpeckers, Great Barbet and Spot winged and Green Backed Tit, Himalayan Griffon Vulture and Red-billed Blue Magpie.

Overnight days 3 to 5 Naini Retreat, Nainital

Day 6 – After your early morning bird-watching walk, return in time for breakfast and transfer to Corbett National Park arriving at Corbett in time for lunch (Depend how much time we spend on the way). After lunch you will be transferred to the Tiger Camp Resort in time for an evening bird-watching walk. The 3 days here will comprise early morning and afternoon birding walks and safaris covering a range of river bank, jungle edge and open scrub land – expected species will include White-capped and Plumbeous Water Redstarts, Scarlet Minivet, Chestnut-bellied Nuthatch, Pallas’s Fish Eagle, Himalayan Woodpecker and Pied, Crested and White-throated Kingfisher, Laughing Thrush. Collared Falconets and Red Jungle Fowls often visit the camp. Your final guided birding safari in Corbett to tick off species not yet seen or, if you wish, return to favourite habitats visited earlier.

Overnight days 6 to 7 at Tiger Camp Resort

Day 8 – A morning’s guided birding around Corbett National Park returning Tiger Camp Resort for lunch before your transfer to Delhi.

Overnight in Delhi, Hotel JP Sidhartha

Day 9 – Transfer to IGI Airport Delhi for your onward flight.
